Bennie C. was born in Fort Benning, GA and raised in Deland Florida. He served in the U.S. Marines for a short time and then later joined the US Army. After two tours, he left the US Army and started college at Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach, FL.. He was able to attend by using his GI Bill for the Nursing Program.
In 2013, after moving to Atlanta, Bennie unfortunately went through a divorce, and he became homeless at that point. He received information from a friend about the Homes of Light Program and was connected to them in the fall of 2014.
Once in the Program he was able to work on regaining his financial stability and re-establish family relationships that were important to him. He then expressed a need to purchase a vehicle and was connected to the Vet-Car Program where he used their no interest loan program to purchase his car.
Bennie now has been connected to his own apartment and moved into it in May 2015. He is excited about the future and says “He would like to become a productive Member of Society once again.”
